Matthew Reed joined the Intown team in 2020. "Being born and raised in the Atlanta area I deeply care about the state of my hometown. After traveling and volunteering around the world for a few years in my early twenties my life calling was revealed to me through the indescribable hospitality and kindness I experienced. Immediately after returning in 1998 I focused my attention to local needs, so I joined a ragtag group committed to cooking quality meals, feeding and hanging out with the homeless.
Since that time, I have had the tremendous opportunity to work with inner city youth, the Grady ACT team and the Mercy Care Street Medicine team. Every day at some point I am filled with gratitude and awe that I actually get paid to make new friends, share life, meet housing needs, and participate in the restoration of my humanity and others on this journey. My life has been enriched and healed during the twenty plus years of developing relationships with this community.
In my free time I love being outside running, biking, hiking and camping. Other sources of joy are connecting with friends/family, teaching a garden class at small neighborhood school, serving meals at the Loaves and Fishes food program, and traveling abroad."

Wali Muhammed has been a member of the Intown team since 2019.
"When I first began this amazing journey of discovery on August 15th, 2008, I could not even imagine that my lived experience with drugs and crime would become my greatest asset.
Hello, my name is Wali and I am in long term recovery. What that means to me is that for over 12 years I have not found it necessary to use or abuse any mind altering or physically abusive chemicals. The road I journeyed in recovery guided me through many inspiring pathways. My journey started with many attempts to stop and with each attempt came an equal number of setbacks. I finally surrendered (meaning I reached out for support) and began the painstaking task of putting my life on track.
This gift of surrender would become an integral part of my life. I could now face the challenges ahead. Through surrender I learned the art of reaching out for support. August 15th, 2008, I found refuge in a homeless shelter located in LaGrange, Ga. My stay in the shelter lasted for two years. Within the first two months of my stay I volunteered to be the cook at the shelter for a population of approximately thirty-six men. My responsibility was to prepare three meals daily. About three months later I became the peer support person for the veterans and the general population. My responsibilities were to escort my peers to their appointments (doctors, food stamps, and social security administration).
A few months later I created and facilitated wellness activities for substance use prevention. One year later I became a staff member. The following year I enrolled in West Georgia Technical College and received my certification in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). I continued to explore my new-found options…I had my life back…what an amazing thing. August 10th, 2010 two years had passed, I decided to leave the shelter and pursue a career as an addiction counselor. I felt being an addiction counselor would allow me to help others and support my own recovery. It was an amazing experience…I love learning!
While studying for my addiction counselor’s certification, I learned about peer support…what a brilliant concept. I decided to pursue both credentials. Over time I pursued several other credentials. With the support of family, friends, and my fellow peers I have successfully achieve certification as a CADC, CPS/FS, CPRP, SAP, CAMS, and NOTARY PUBLIC. I am the founder of PEER 2 PEER RECOVERY CONSULTANTS LLC. I worked as a contractor for GMCHN, Fellowship Deliverance Ministries and Securing Resources for Consumers. My passion for recovery is never ending. My life is always in forward motion when it comes to recovery. My life’s experience is a testimony that with hope, surrender, and perseverance recovery is possible."
